I was pretty young when I discovered Poe. My aunt had given me what was basically The Great Books rewritten for the under-10 crowd. One of the volumes was a collection of Poe stories. "The Fall of the House of Usher" didn't do much for me--probably because the editors cut out all the stuff with all the subtext--but "The Cask of Amontillado" stuck with me.
I do have to confess that while "The Raven" is one of my favorite poems, it's not number one on my list. That would be "Eldorado." (http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Eldorado)
