I am NOT gonna apply for this. I don't care if it IS a tenure-track position that only requires a Master's (and by the way, if there isn't a catch somewhere in there, I'll eat my hat). I don't care if I even still know some people from the year I went there. Not gonna apply. Puttin' it outta my head. I will think of it no more.

What is it that made you even look at it? What makes it appealing to you? Why do you feel compelled to yell "NO!" and flee? Is there some reason you felt the urge to post it here so people would convince you to apply?

These are exactly the questions I would ask!

And I also say: APPLY. More options is gooder. If they don't contact you, eh. If they do, you can decide how far to take it.

Now, see, I bet you thought I wouldn't have answers for any of these.

What is it that made you even look at it?
I was feeling especially disgruntled yesterday because people who can barely discharge their own duties were telling me how to do my job, so I was browsing the job listings in The Chronicle of Higher Education.

What makes it appealing to you?
It's a tenure-track position that requires a Master's degree.

Why do you feel compelled to yell "NO!" and flee?
It's a tenure-track position that requires a Master's degree. You know what that means? It means I'm gonna apply, I'm gonna get my hopes up, I'm gonna think hey, I got a shot at this, then in three or four months, I'm gonna get a very polite rejection letter.

Is there some reason you felt the urge to post it here so people would convince you to apply?
Ah, but Miss assumes too much. I posted it here so people could read it, find the loophole I'm missing, and say, "Don't be an idiot. Nobody gets a tenure-track position with a Master's degree. Nobody beats the system."

Can you relay "significant professional experience"? onto your CV?

If you know someone in the department, can you ask them what sort of apps they've been getting for this?
