Date: 2006-06-16 05:33 am (UTC)One time I found a dollar bill in the gutter. I was dangling it daintily from my thumb and forefinger, as it had just been raining and this thing was pretty scummy, when this guy saw me from across the street. Immediately he starts begging for some he'p, jes' wanna catch de bus is all, don' meanna disrespec' ya.
I held the flaccid, sorry bill out and said, "I just now found this thing in the gutter. If you want it, you're welcome to it." He actually looked at it with some distaste for a couple moments, internal battle raging, before snatching it and muttering something equivalent to thanks, in some cultures.
