  • Milwaukee, Wisconsin's own The Gothsicles are playing this Saturday night as part of the MarsCon festivities. Do check them out, won't you?

  • Right around the top of Hour Three of this afternoon's meeting, I began to feel a more-profound-than-usual sense of regret at not having gone to barber college when I had the chance.

  • It hasn't been the same since they moved to New York, but occasionally, The Onion can still hit one out of the park.

  • While we're on the subject, this week's AV Club Interview is with Jim Gaffigan. He's one of my favorite standup comics at the moment.

  • Would it be unseemly for a nearly-34-year-old, nearly-24-stone man to try to learn to skateboard?

Gaah. I likes me some Gothsicles, but I'll be thrice-damned before I show up for a MarsCon anything.

Uh-oh. Is MarsCon thrice damning? I honestly hadn't heard of it before last September.

You should come anyway!

Like so many other things, it's politics. It's how they conducted themselves when they first started. I won't support them, but I don't look down on anyone who does.

I saw Gothsicles last year when they performed with endif and others for that weekend-thing in Madison. That's good enough for me, I suppose.

That was probably our best show ever. You picked a good one to see. :) We won't be playing Reverence again this year, but you should come anyway. It promises to be 100% pure badass.

Sucks that there are politics involved around MarsCon. It seems there are around everything.

My friend's in endif, he told me to come out - I could only catch the first night of it, but I was blown away by what I saw. I didn't realize you're in Gothsicles! You guys were incredible! Everyone seemed to love you, singing along and such. I'd heard your name before but that was the first I'd heard your music. (I was the drunk-ass in the kilt.)

There are politics everywhere, as much as one chooses to acknowledge them. There are some things I look past, and sometimes I take up others' battles. Other people do what they like without a mind toward politics, and that's excellent, that's very good for them. I strike allegiances, for better or for worse. It's limiting but I don't know any other way to be.

Oh, you know [livejournal.com profile] endif? Cool, he's a good guy. Glad to hear you liked the show! Hopefully we'll be playing around more often once this semester ends and the CD gets closer to being released.

Holy crap, I'm all about a CD. I'll be haunting your website...

HOLY CRAP! You're playing in Madison on my birthday! I think I'll take that day off and haul my opinionated and pallid ass on out there!

What is this Reverence you speak of?

Now that A Midsummer Night's Scream is defunct, I'm feeling a real void in the "go to Wisconsin to see a goth show" part of my soul.

Big festival, much badasser than MSNS, if you ask me. See here (http://www.deadbeatproductions.com/) for more info.

I didn't even know about MarsCon until about two weeks ago, when a friend mentioned she's moderating a couple of panels. I figured what the hell.

Still looking forward to CONvergence, though.

Thanks for the pimpage, yo! We'll be playing lots of different stuff from the last time you saw us. And we (should) have a demo CD with two new songs and a new version of an old favorite!

You can always go to barber school. SRSLY.

I dunno about the skateboarding thing, though. I think you have the balance/grace. I think the bike thing is more awesome, though.

Yeah, but if I had done it back when I was laid off, I could have at least looked into maybe getting some grants or something for retraining.

My bike may very well be the most badass thing that's ever been constructed by human hands, I will grant you that.

You could start by learning to snowboard first. Hey, John Kerry did it and he's a LOT older than you!
(plus, the falls would be a little softer, and all the ski resorts offer snowboard lessons.)

The year I moved up here, I resolved that I would learn to snowboard. I haven't yet, but it is a nice thought.

And in response to your earlier question, there's a Hancock Fabrics in that little strip mall at Penn and 494. They've got McCall's patterns on sale for a buck right now.
