Every couple of months, the University of Minnesota and I go through the paces of our little dance: I send them a resume and a job application, and they ignore it. It's actually grown rather tiresome, but I've decided to give them one more chance. They have a job posted for which I could not be more qualified if I had written the requisition myself. If they ignore this one, I will know for certain that the people doing the hiring are just employing their nephews.

Funnily enough, I was just listening to that song last night. Tom Lehrer seems to be a recurring theme in my life. (Which is fine; at least it's not that jive turkey Mark Russell.)

Have you read Seriously funny : the rebel comedians of the 1950s and 1960s by Gerald Nachman? There's a whole chapter in it about Tom Lehrer. My favorite part is where Mr Lehrer narrowly avoids getting beaten up by Ricardo Montalban.
