I've been a huge fan of Parker fountain pen inks for a while now, but I never had much luck with their pens. The first Parker pen I tried--a Reflex--just plain stopped writing after only a couple of months. I couldn't do anything to make it work, although admittedly, I didn't try very hard because it was a five-dollar pen. So I stayed away from Parker pens for a while.

Then last month, my usual work pen ran out of ink, so I swung by my favorite art store for a replacement. They had Parker Vectors on sale, so I figured what the hell.

Sweet fancy Moses, this is a good pen. Smooth writer, nice clean line, never fails to start even after not being used for a weekend. I think this even outperforms my 40-dollar Waterman. It's also got this cool bare-bones "tube that ink comes out of" form factor. I'm thinking about picking another one up so I have one around the house.

So I guess if there's a moral, it's this: Never become the kind of person who writes about fountain pens on their Livejournal.
