He's all you can stand, give him a hand

I ordered this book tonight. I bought the guitar almost 10 years ago, because I was in my twenties and all twentysomethings are required by law to buy guitars. I very stubbornly learned the C, G, and D chords, but I never got as far as learning actual songs. Since then, I've been carting it around every time I moved, and it always sits in a corner under about an inch of dust, as all guitars bought by twentysomethings are required to do.

Lately I've been feeling creatively unfulfilled, and I've always been a fan of Mark Knopfler, so I figured what the hell, I'll try fingerpicking. I've always liked the idea of playing in that style, and it's not something that everybody does. I figure I'll try it for a couple of months and see if it sticks. And if I decide to go electric, I've already got my axe picked out.

I know I've been grumbling a lot lately about taking up the cello, and I'm going to do that this year too, but in the meantime, I've already got the guitar. Bird in the hand, yo.
