(no subject)
Feb. 25th, 2004 11:30 pmI had my first sewing class tonight. It's me and five middle-aged housewives. I had to smile at everybody else hauling in shiny new Husqvarnas and quilting machines while I brought in my Eisenhower-era Singer. (Long after their machines are decomposing in a landfill, I'll still be cranking out Fine Clothing for the Enormous Gentleman.)
You can tell everything you need to know about the dynamic of the class from the fabrics we selected for our projects. Them: Pastels, little prints of cute shoes, and I think somebody had some stuff with tiny crayons on it. Me: Dark blue batik with little gold ankhs and Eyes of Horus. But no, they're a perfectly nice group of ladies and we get along fine. It'll be a good class.
I'm making a robe. I think a velvet-collared frock coat is a little bit ambitious right now.
